Detroit television stations partner again offer viewers crucial information during health crisis

Watch tonight at 7 p.m., on Detroit Public TV (56.1) or dptv.org

Detroit Public TV will partner with commercial television stations in the Detroit market for a second time to produce and broadcast a virtual Town Hall to help deliver information to viewers during this time of crisis.

The broadcast will feature Michigan’s U.S. Senators, Sen. Gary Peters and Sen. Debbie Stabenow, discussing a range of relevant topics, including unemployment, healthcare, safety, virus testing, small businesses and what’s next.

Channels 2 (WJBK-TV), 4 (WDIV-TV), 7 (WXYZ-TV), 20 (WMYD-TV), 50 (WKBD-TV), 56 (WTVS-TV) and 62 (WWJ-TV) will all broadcast the Town Hall live on Thursday, April 16, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., along with broadcast TV and radio stations across Michigan, in partnership with the Michigan Association of Broadcasters and Michigan Association of Public Broadcasters.

The Town Hall will be hosted by Detroit news anchors Carolyn Clifford (WXYZ-TV), Huel Perkins (WJBK-TV) and Devin Scillian (WDIV-TV). Each of those three stations will offer opportunities to its viewers to submit questions online for the Senators that the anchors will ask during the broadcast. The anchors will host from their stations’ respective studios, while Sen. Peters will broadcast from Oakland County and Sen. Stabenow from Lansing.

The Town Hall also will be available via websites such as clickondetroit.com, fox2detroit.com wxyz.com  and dptv.org and streaming platforms such as Roku, Amazon (Fire) TV, Apple TV, Android TV and Facebook Live.

The general managers of the participating stations believe that coming together again to combine their collective reach and impact in the community will provide viewers with new unfiltered information that is necessary as they all cope with the impact of COVID-19, particularly in Michigan, still one of the hardest hit states.

At Detroit Public TV, this is part of our ongoing effort to provide members of our community with the facts and helpful advice they need to navigate the coronavirus emergency and keep their families safe and secure.
