
Mid Michigan College’s Tailgate Team Toss Challenge brought excitement, school spirit, and scholarship opportunities to local high school football games this fall. The interactive halftime event gave students the chance to compete in a fun, friendly bean bag toss competition with scholarship awards totaling several thousand dollars.
“We were able to attend four local games this year, and it was a great opportunity to connect with local students, families, and community members,” shared Beth Binder, Director of Admissions at Mid.
During each event, participating students competed for a chance to earn Mid Michigan College scholarships in the amount of $100 or $500. Winners represented several area schools:
Farewell v. Osborn (September 5)

- $100- Paris Gutierrez (Farwell)
- $100- Allena Wunderlich (Farwell)
Mt. Pleasant vs. Midland Dow (September 12)
- $500- Audrey Lange (Mt. Pleasant)
- $500- Kylie Hutchins (Mt. Pleasant)
- $100- Audrina Fillingham (Mt. Pleasant)
- $100- Ella Dawson (Mt. Pleasant)
Clare vs. Gladwin (September 19)
- $500- Liz Winchester (Gladwin)
- $500- Ben Verellen (Gladwin)
- $100- Mackenzie Miller (Clare)
- $100- Mallory Louch (Clare)
Shepherd vs. St. Louis (October 17)
- $500- Scarlett Salm (Shepherd)
- $500- Taylor Briehl (Shepherd)
- $100- Aeralyn Leonard (St. Louis)
- $100- Abby McCulley (St. Louis)
In total, $4,800 in scholarships were awarded to local high school students through the Mid Michigan College Tailgate Team Toss Challenge.
The initiative aligns with Mid Michigan College’s mission to create connections with local students and promote pathways to success through higher education. The College continues to collaborate with area high schools and community partners to offer innovative, student-centered programs and events.
