Google Inc. is in the market for new high-tech space in the suburbs. Sources say the Internet giant has been scouting for locations of at least 30,000 square feet for R&D space related to autonomous vehicles. The locations that have been considered so far include Southfield, Troy and Farmington Hills.

Union membership in Michigan rebounded significantly in 2015 after suffering a sharp decline in 2014, the first full year of Michigan being a right-to-work state.

Thanks to a growing job market and affordable homes, Grand Rapids is being ranked as the best place in the United States to buy a house by Forbes.com. The survey noted the greater Grand Rapids area has seen its economy grow by 3.9 percent in the last year while its unemployment has fallen to 3.1 percent last September.
