State, Local Officials Celebrate Michigan Agriculture Month
Event Highlights Michigan’s Agricultural Heritage and Contributions from Local Farmers
OKEMOS, Mich. – (March 3, 2025) – Michigan Food and Agriculture Month officially kicked off with a special event this morning at the McDonald’s in Okemos (3477 Okemos Rd, Okemos, MI 48864).
The event, hosted in partnership with local organizations, legislators, Michigan farmers, and McDonald’s of Michigan, honored the state’s rich agricultural heritage and the contributions of Michigan’s farmers and suppliers.
The event featured remarks from local and state officials, including Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee member State Senator Sam Singh (D – East Lansing), Kathy Angerer, Chief of Staff for the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD), and representatives from major agricultural organizations such as the United Dairy Industry of Michigan, Michigan Milk Producers Association, Michigan Pork Producers, Michigan Vegetable Council, Michigan Corn, and the Michigan Soybean Committee. Together, they emphasized the vital roles Michigan’s agriculture industry and McDonald’s play in the state’s economy.
A proclamation from Governor Whitmer’s office also recognized the impact McDonald’s has on Michigan’s economy. McDonald’s has a deep commitment to sourcing locally across the state of Michigan. It contributes more than $2.2 billion in GDP, 32,300 jobs, and generates nearly $720 million in federal, state, and local taxes. McDonald’s currently sources millions of pounds of Michigan-grown produce, including apples, beef, cucumbers, corn, and soybeans, as well as 51 million dozen eggs and 7 million gallons of milk annually.
