Going back to school isn’t just for kids

Did you know those with a high school diploma or equivalent earn about 25% more than those without one? 

Don’t leave money on the table! This Back to School Month, explore free and low-cost programs to help you improve your reading, writing and math skills, and prepare you to earn a high school diploma or its equivalent.

Disaster Unemployment Assistance may be available to those impacted by April storms

Did you lose work because of severe storms in April? You may qualify for federal unemployment assistance.

This program supports Michiganders in 27 counties and includes those who were self-employed.

Individuals could receive up to 38 weeks of benefits if they lost their job or were temporarily unemployed due to April 10-21 severe weather incidents, with all benefits ending Jan. 2, 2027. Eligibility will be determined on a week-to-week basis.  Applications must be filed by Aug. 29.

MSHDA is making home happen

The Michigan State Housing Development Authority’s (MSHDA) MI 10K DPA program can help eligible Michigan homebuyers with down payment assistance and make homeownership feel more achievable.

Whether you are a first-time homebuyer or a seasoned veteran of the housing market, MSHDA has a mortgage product to meet your needs.

Michigan is making it easier for skilled trades workers to earn college credit!

The Michigan College Credit for Apprenticeships Program strengthens pathways for trades workers at any stage in their career to learn new technologies, start their own business, move into project management, pursue union leadership and more.

In many cases, apprenticeship completers will only need to take a semester of community college courses to finish an associate’s degree.

Fellowship available to support future educators

Applications for 2026-2027 The MI Future Educator Fellowship are now open! 

The MI Future Educator Fellowship offers $10,000 scholarship to up to 2,500 future educators every year who are admitted and enrolled in an Educator Preparation Program approved by the Michigan Department of Education.

Complete the 2026-27 MI Future Educator Fellowship application by June 15, 2027.
