Can you tell the Michigan business community a bit about the work you do and the scope of service and territory for Barr?
You’ve been a geotechnical engineer for 16 years. Could you share more about your career path and how it led to your new role with the company?
What will you be focusing on in this new position?
For the past 16 years, Kelly has worked on projects in the Upper Midwest serving power, mining, and municipal clients. She’s also a FERC-approved independent consultant for dam safety inspections. Kelly began her career with Barr after receiving a master’s degree in geological engineering from Montana Tech and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Michigan State University.

Barr Engineering names new vice presidents welcomes new talent in Grand Rapids and Ann Arbor
As Michigan’s environmental and engineering demands continue to grow, Barr Engineering Co. is expanding and evolving to meet communities’ ever-changing needs. The consulting firm has added nine new hires to support regional clients and projects, and it also promoted Bethany Kelly and Daniel Petlicki to the role of vice president in light of their exceptional expertise and contributions.
As a senior geotechnical engineer for the past 16 years, Kelly has extensive project experience in the Upper Midwest serving power, mining, and municipal clients. She is also a FERC-approved independent consultant for dam safety inspections. Kelly began her career with Barr after receiving a master’s degree in geological engineering from Montana Tech and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Michigan State University.
Petlicki is an engineering professional with nine years of experience at Barr and more than 16 years in the industry. His area of focus is the execution of capital projects in the power and manufacturing sectors. Petlicki earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Michigan State University and a master’s degree in business administration from DePaul University.

The Ann Arbor office welcomed the following new staff members:
● Mark Remell is a structural engineer working on projects involving design and analysis and construction observation. Remell graduated from Lawrence Technological University with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with an emphasis in structural engineering.
● Shannon Brink joined Barr as a geologist. Brink has experience in water resources as a training and laboratory manager and holds a master’s degree in geological sciences from East Carolina University.
● Diane Schattenberg, a senior project engineer, brings more than 20 years of experience in the oil and gas industry to Barr. The Texas A&M alum specializes in the design of pipelines, gas storage facilities, and standalone structures for both onshore and offshore projects.
● Michael Schienke is a geotechnical engineer with three years of experience. He has worked on more than 30 geotechnical investigations and has experience writing geotechnical reports. Schienke holds a bachelor’s degree in geological engineering from Michigan Technological University.
● Thomas Stroup, a structural engineer, joins the team with seven years of experience in substation design. He specializes in structural design and detailing steel structures, capitalizing on his broad understanding of substation physical design. Stroup received his master’s in civil engineering with a structural engineering emphasis from Michigan Technological University.
● Erin Bosman, a chemical engineer, has a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Michigan State University. Bosman works on projects involving regulatory compliance and permitting.
● Demitrius Mallos is a process engineer with five years of experience. Demitrius has a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Michigan Technological University.

The Grand Rapids office welcomed two people:
● Kate Watson is a senior environmental engineer with over 17 years of experience investigating, analyzing alternatives for, and implementing remedial action at contaminated sites. Watson is a Georgia Institute of Technology alumna.
● Lydia Bradley is a geologist who assists with environmental assessments, on-site investigations, aquifer performance tests and analysis, construction observation, and preparation of drilling logs, geologic maps, cross-sections, and technical reports. She earned a bachelor’s degree in geology from Cedarville University.
