The Women of Aerospace Industry Association of Michigan (WAIAM) is ready for the 4th Annual Michigan Youth Future Flight Challenge (MYFFC) — a free, virtual, statewide aerospace competition for students in grades 4–8, running from October 11 to November 8, 2025.
Calling all aerospace industry professionals – WAIAM is gathering mentors for this year’s MYFFC! This is a low time commitment role, with a total of no more than 4 hours over a month. As a mentor, you’ll share your story, provide feedback, answer questions, and inspire students to dream big about their future in aerospace and beyond. If you are interested in mentorship, please continue reading to learn more about the program, and register as a mentor here.
This dynamic STEM-focused program invites students to explore aerospace careers through hands-on, team-based learning — reinforcing classroom concepts while building real-world skills.
Program Highlights:
- Teams of 2–6 students register and compete together
- Students apply STEM principles in a creative, project-based environment
- Virtual format makes it easy to integrate into classrooms or after-school programs
- Explore roles in aerospace, from engineering to marketing
- Build collaboration, critical thinking, and communication skills
Over the course of 4 weeks, student teams will develop a solution to a real-world challenge, guided by challenge statements released at kickoff. They’ll also have the opportunity to virtually meet with aerospace professionals from across Michigan for mentorship and support.
New this year, all participants receive a free event t-shirt, and groups receive a Student Project Kit, including tools and materials to supplement their project. Prizes valued up to $1,000 are awarded to top teams!
