University of Michigan Health-Sparrow Carson Team Member Gets Lifetime Nursing Award

LANSING, Mich. –
A University of Michigan Health-Sparrow Carson nurse practitioner has been given a lifetime achievement award for her extraordinary career and her service to patients.

Nancy Weaver, NP, received the DAISY Lifetime Achievement Award, which recognizes nurses who have devoted their life’s work to the compassionate care of others.

“We are celebrating not just a career but a lifetime of service, compassion and dedication,” said Mariah Hesse, chief nursing officer of UM Health-Sparrow Carson and Clinton.

Hesse lauded Weaver for “touching countless lives, comforting those in pain and shaping the standards of nursing excellence.”

Weaver began her career as a contingency RN at the then-Carson City Hospital, then worked in the Intensive Care Unit, as assistant director of nursing, and director of patient care services. She has worked at UM Health-Sparrow Carson’s pain management clinic for the past 10 years.

Nominees for the DAISY Lifetime Achievement Award are honored for their dedication to nursing through active mentoring, role modeling and advocating for patients. Lifetime Achievement nurses are nominated for the award by their peers.

As a DAISY Lifetime Achievement Award recipient, Weaver was presented with a certificate of recognition, a DAISY pin and a hand-carved sculpture entitled The Healer’s Touch. The DAISY Foundation is also the founder of the DAISY Award, an international program that rewards and celebrates the extraordinary, compassionate and skillful care given by nurses every day.
