Lansing-Based Firm Defies Talent Shortage, Earns Dual Recognition as One of the Best Places to Work

LANSING, Mich. – Across the U.S., accounting firms are grappling with a shrinking pipeline of new graduates, heightened competition for experienced CPAs, and increasing turnover pressures. Maner Costerisan is standing out by leaning into a deliberate strategy: investing in career development, offering flexibility, and fostering a culture of respect and connection.

That approach is paying off. For the 10th year in a row, Lansing-based public accounting and business consulting firm, Maner Costerisan, has been named one of the Best Firms to Work For by Accounting Today.

Adding to that achievement, Maner earned a standout No. 2 ranking in the medium-sized employer category of Crain’s Detroit Business Best Places to Work in Southeast Michigan for 2025. The firm also rose to No. 13 overall, climbing from No. 27 in 2024, marking its fourth consecutive year on the list.

“Culture isn’t a buzzword for us — it’s our competitive advantage,” said Trey Williams, CPA, president of Maner Costerisan. “In an industry where turnover can disrupt client relationships and stall growth, our ability to retain and engage our team allows us to better serve clients and build lasting partnerships. We’re humbled that our people-first approach continues to earn both national and regional recognition.”

The Accounting Today recognition is part of the publication’s 18th annual list, produced in partnership with Best Companies Group. The ranking is based on an in-depth review of workplace policies and practices, as well as confidential employee surveys.

The Best Places to Work in Southeast Michigan list, created by Crain’s Detroit Business and Best Companies, celebrates the top 100 employers across 11 counties, a region that includes more than half of Michigan’s population and businesses. Maner’s inclusion reflects its strong scores in both company policy reviews and employee experience surveys.

Maner Costerisan’s employee-focused initiatives include:

  • Maner Costerisan Cares, a community outreach program that empowers employees to support local causes;
  • Career advisors and development programs designed to recognize and reward achievement;
  • Parental leave and generous paid time off, including a floating holiday introduced in 2024;
  • Wellness reimbursements of up to $500 annually to promote physical and mental well-being.

“Retention and engagement are critical challenges in our industry, but they don’t have to be barriers to success,” Williams said. “By investing in our people and creating a culture where they feel supported and valued, we’re building on our nearly 120 years in business to continue to put employees at the forefront.”
