LANSING, Mich. – The Michigan Organization for Nursing Leadership (MONL) announced its strong opposition to House Bills 6116-6119, which would create a state government hospital cost review board, warning that the legislation would jeopardize access to care and put thousands of nursing and healthcare jobs at risk across Michigan.
“House Bills 6116-6119 would devastate access to healthcare around Michigan and put nursing jobs on the line. The state is already facing a severe nursing shortage, and new taxes on healthcare investments would deepen it, putting as many as 21,600 hospital jobs at risk, including 9,000 registered nursing positions,” said Kelly Baird-Cox, DNP, RN, CPNP-PC, CPEN, CEN, TCRN, NEA-BC, CENP, MONL President.
“Nurses know what happens when a hospital can’t keep its doors open: patients lose access to care, and the workforce loses jobs that often anchor these communities. MONL urges lawmakers to oppose this legislation in the best interest of patients, communities, and the teams who care for them.”
