Respiratory Therapist Recognized as Apprentice-able Occupation

A significant advancement in healthcare workforce innovation has been achieved with the official designation of Respiratory Therapist as an apprentice-able occupation by the U.S. Department of Labor Office of Apprenticeship, led by the Health Careers Alliance employer-led collaborative, convened by WIN, in collaboration with regional partners.

This milestone marks the expansion of Registered Apprenticeship into a highly skilled, licensed clinical profession, establishing a new earn-and-learn pathway that combines hands-on training with aligned academic instruction and credential attainment. The newly developed framework reflects national standards while opening doors to accessible, high-quality career opportunities in respiratory care.

The designation represents a powerful step forward in strengthening healthcare talent pipelines, supporting employers, and creating sustainable pathways into one of the most in-demand occupations in the region.
