Candy Jones-Guerin, of WebWorld Advantage, was back in our studio looking ahead to fall, now that summer is almost over. She reviews things to think about when designing your next website, or your website makeover.
Jeffrey and Candy discuss the following points when planning your site:
- What platform do you want to use: free builders, hosting companies like godaddy or WordPress, which she loves. Almost all of the new options do not require much coding. Using a platform like these will help you save money and time in the long-run.
- You can determine what your business’ current site was built with using tools like builtwith.com.
- Do you own your domain name? Use this tool to find out: WHOIS.com.
- How many pages for your site, what will your sitemap look like?
- Each page should have enough impact – 250-600 words
- Using long-tail keywords
- What kind of bells and whistles do you require?
- Lead Capture Forms
- Email Marketing Signups
- Image Galleries
- Storefront
Beyond the interview, Candy offered up this advice as well:
- How long will this website last? The average used to be around 10 years, now we are looking at 5-7 years.
- Make sure you get samples of your designers work, as each designer has a different way of approaching a website. Make sure they can create the look and feel you want.
