Battery Supply Chain: The Weakest Link in Climate Change Battle
The last four years have seen a remarkable shift in the automotive industry with the acceleration of both consumer demand for EVs and a wholesale shift of production planning away from internal-combustion engines (ICE) towards EVs over the next decade.
This has been hastened by the visible impact of no traffic in cities during the pandemic as well as the initiatives of cities and governments to eliminate the pollution caused by ICE vehicles.
The adoption of EVs will help reduce greenhouse-gas emissions and improve air quality, but this requires national and international system-level thinking between governments and private organizations.
There is a need to collaborate, incentivize and invest in research, development, and deployment of clean and renewable distributed-energy generation and storage systems.
