Stocks closed higher on Friday with the S&P posting its largest week of gains in nearly a year. The Dow added 91 to 17,824, the S&P advanced 10 to 2,089 and the Nasdaq climbed 31 to 5,105.
Investing in boring bridges and sewers is paying off once again. Municipal bonds sold by U.S. state and local governments are returning about 2% this year, according to Barclays data, beating corporate bonds and many other supposedly higher-performing asset classes.
The US Treasury said it may, for the first time, begin regular sales of two month securities, in the latest sign of strong global demand for government debt.
