
While on Mackinac Island for the Detroit Chamber’s Mackinac Policy Conference. Chris sat down with U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow, they discuss manufacturing and the auto industry, however the senator had just taken part in an event where Michigan Lt. Gov. Brian Calley along with the Michigan Defense Center announced “Protect and Grow,” a strategic plan based on collaboration among Michigan Economic Development Corporation and the U.S. Army Tank Automotive Research, Development and Engineering Center. The plan features a cooperative research-and-development agreement was rolled out Thursday June 2nd.
Senator Stabenow had also participated in a panel discussion; Defense The Value of Defense: Protecting and Growing Michigan’s Assets panel will build on the Conference pillar of investing in the future. Sometimes overlooked, Michigan’s defense assets create jobs and revenue in communities throughout the state. As a leader in defense contract procurement, and innovative technologies shared between the automotive and defense industries, the state remains vulnerable if certain assets were to be reassigned or eliminated. Recognizing the economic impact of the industry, panelists will explore opportunities to grow and leverage the state’s defense assets to boost economic opportunities for Michigan businesses in the defense and homeland security sectors. The senator went on to discuss things in Washington D.C. and how they impact the Michigan business community. They wrap up discussing the new flight out of Lansing to Washington.
