The Hatching is the Lansing Economic Area Partnership (LEAP) business pitch competition open to entrepreneurs in Clinton, Eaton, Ingham, and Shiawassee counties. The Hatching aim is to create an inspiring entrepreneurship environment for a more innovative region. Participants can win a first-place prize of $2,000 or a runner-up prize of $1,000 and are connected to a network of local resource providers and individuals dedicated to helping aspiring entrepreneurs succeed.
Seven entrepreneurs will pitch ideas at Thursday’s outdoor event, which will offer both creative collaborations and catering from One and All program alumni & mentors- including food from Tantay, Everything is Cheesecake, and Honey Bun Bakery. In addition to the competition, Poet Laureate and event emcee Masaki Takahashi will host a half-time panel of local entrepreneurs to discuss the process of building and operating a small business. Panelists will include Jerry Norris of The Fledge, Marcus Leslie of Mr. Leslie’s Cheesecakes, and Gloria Treviño of TheraPLAYoga.

About The Hatching
The Hatching is a regularly occurring business pitch competition founded by LEAP, established as part of a community-wide effort to support local entrepreneurs. Participants submit business and product ideas through the Hatching’s online portal, where the public subsequently votes forward the ideas that will be pitched in front of a live audience and panel of judges.
