LANSING, Mich. – University of Michigan Health-Sparrow has once again received the American Heart Association’s highest recognition for stroke care, earning the Get with the Guidelines®-Stroke Gold Plus achievement award.

The designation marks the ninth consecutive year UM Health-Sparrow has secured the Gold Plus status, a streak that places it among the nation’s elite programs for treating the fifth-leading cause of death and a leading cause of disability in the U.S.

As the only comprehensive stroke center in Mid-Michigan, UM Health-Sparrow provides a spectrum of care, from emergency transport to post-discharge follow-up.

UM Health-Sparrow was also named to the Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll, acknowledging success in reducing stroke risk among diabetic patients.

Stroke occurs when a blood vessel carrying oxygen and nutrients to the brain is blocked by a clot or bursts, killing brain cells. Early detection and treatment are critical to improving survival, minimizing long-term disability and accelerating recovery.

UM Health-Sparrow’s stroke center includes rapid-response ambulance protocols, 24/7 neurology coverage and highly specialized providers, ensuring that patients receive specialized care without the delays of long-distance transport.
