CARSON CITY, Mich. – University of Michigan Health-Sparrow Carson has been named a top performer for quality care in a new nationwide study.
The hospital earned the ranking in the small community hospital category of the 2025 Vizient Quality and Accountability Study. Vizient is a leading health care performance improvement company and its annual study recognizes excellence in delivering high-quality patient care.
University of Michigan Health C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital also was recognized as a top performer for the Vizient Sustainability Excellence Award. That award recognizes health care organizations demonstrating outstanding commitment to sustainability, based on program maturity and environmentally preferred purchasing.

The study segmented 1,220 participating hospitals into peer groups and measured across six domains: safety, mortality, effectiveness, efficiency, patient centeredness and equity. The study, which covered a period from July 1, 2024, to June 30, 2025, helps health systems benchmark their performance and identify best practices associated with high performance in quality and safety.
The analysis used data from the Vizient Clinical Data Base, the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) survey and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Healthcare Safety Network.
