MBN: UMH Sparrow lab equipmentLANSING, Mich. – The UM Health-Sparrow Department of Forensic Pathology and Office of the Medical Examiner has released its 2026 second-quarter drug report, covering drug-related deaths in Clinton, Eaton, Ingham, Ionia, Isabella, Livingston and Shiawassee counties from April 1 through June 30.

“Most of the drug deaths we see involve multiple substances, not just one,” said Michelle Fox, D-ABMDI, Supervisor of Forensic Pathology and Office of Decedent Affairs and Chief Investigator for the Office of the Medical Examiner. “Our investigators work carefully to determine which substances actually caused or contributed to each death, so the data we publish reflects what is truly driving these tragedies in our communities.”

Ingham County recorded 23 drug-related deaths, the highest in the region. Eaton County recorded six, while Livingston County had five and Isabella County had four.  Clinton, Ionia and Shiawassee counties recorded no drug-related deaths during the quarter.

“These numbers represent real people and real families,” Fox said. “We publish this report not just to track trends, but to give our community and our partners the information they need to respond.”
