Fostering Futures Scholarship Trust Fund Detroit Dinner Fundraiser is Tomorrow

WHAT:

The 10th annual Fostering Futures Scholarship Trust Fund Detroit Dinner Fundraiser will raise college scholarship money for young people who are leaving foster care.

Close to 10,500 youth are in the Michigan foster care system run by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS). Nationally, 75% of former foster youth express a desire to attend college, fewer than 10% enroll in college after high school and fewer than 3% eventually earn a degree.

Children in foster care often lack the family support that’s important when it’s time to consider going to college.

Tomorrow’s event includes dinner and a variety of raffle opportunities.

Additional information is at www.michigan.gov/fosteringfutures.

WHO:

Organizers are the Michigan Education Trust, which is the state’s 529 prepaid tuition program within the Michigan Department of Treasury, and the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, which assists the approximately 10,500 children who are in the state’s foster care system. Recipients of scholarships will be among the attendees.

Emcee is Carolyn Clifford from television station WXYZ-TV 7 in Detroit. Speakers include State Treasurer Rachael Eubanks and Lewis Roubal, chief deputy director for opportunity at MDHHS. The keynote speaker is Stephen A. Queisser, vice president of strategic partnerships at Student Connections LLC, who will share his life story as a foster parent.

5:30-9:30 p.m. Eastern time on Thursday, Sept. 22

WHERE:
