Suspension of Updated FLSA Overtime Rule

Fresh word coming in from Hiring Solutions LLCof Okemos, MI, who have been following this staffing issue!

As many of you know, the update to the Fair Labor Standards Act’s (FLSA) overtime rule was set to go into effect Thursday, December 1 of this year. Just recently, a federal court in Texas entered a nationwide injunction late yesterday blocking the U.S. Department of Labor from implementing the Department of Labor’s (DOL’s) new federal overtime rule. This new rule was set to double the current salary threshold for exemption from overtime pay and would have automatically adjusted the threshold every three years beginning in 2020.

More details on the implications of the federal overtime rule can be viewed on the Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM) website here: https://goo.gl/BQE4Dw

While the rule may be suspended now, we still encourage our clients to ensure your current positions do pass the current FLSA laws – in particular the duties test.
