Sparrow Eaton recognizes first-ever DAISY honoree for outstanding nursing
CHARLOTTE, MI – Sparrow Eaton Hospital has honored a highly skilled nurse with its first-ever DAISY Award after she comforted an autistic child uneasy about undergoing surgery.
Surgery Nurse Emily Bradford, RN, was named the DAISY Award honoree based on a nomination from a family member of a patient for her compassion and attentiveness to the autistic child. Bradford, who has worked at Sparrow Eaton since 2016, was recognized for her compassionate care, outstanding nursing skills, and always putting patients first.
“Emily exudes patience, understanding, and empathy with every patient she cares for,” said Sparrow Eaton Hospital Chief Nursing Officer Dr. Tiffany Friar, DNP, MBA, RN. “She is joyful and reliable and her team genuinely adores working alongside her. We are incredibly lucky to have nurses like Emily on our local team.”
The DAISY Foundation was formed in November 1999 by the family of J. Patrick Barnes, who died at the age of 33 of complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP). The nursing care Patrick received when hospitalized profoundly touched his family. After Patrick’s passing, The DAISY Foundation and The DAISY Award (named as an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System) were created to give patients, families, and co-workers an easy way to express gratitude for nurses who provide extraordinary, compassionate care.
Bradford received certificates, a DAISY pin, a bouquet of daisies, and a beautiful stone sculpture known as “A Healer’s Touch,” hand-carved by artists in Zimbabwe. The sculpture depicts the embracing relationship nurses have with their patients.
