Is the new revenue to be generated from the sales tax increase really going for the roads? Or is it a general tax increase to be used for education, mass transit, increases in the Earned Income Tax Credit and for local governments—and yes, also for roads? Has Michigan’s Proposal 1 been misrepresented as a sales tax increase for roads? Does Proposal 1 call for just a sales tax increase or are we actually facing 3 tax increases—sales tax, fuel tax and registration fees?
