The Administration is expected to announce new rules within the next month about who qualifies for overtime pay. It affects workers who work more than 40 hours a week.
Under the current rules, workers who are paid by the hour or earn a salary of less than $23,660 are generally eligible for overtime pay, while those with salaries of at least that amount who work in white collar jobs generally are not eligible. President Obama states that the rule changes will strengthen the middle class and help address income inequality. Should the rules be changed?
