The topic in Something to Think About is “Compromise Can Work, Can our Politicians?” At the end of 2015 we had solid examples that Congress and the President can compromise and pass bills to move forward. They passed a highway and infrastructure bill, budget bill and a bill dealing with a number of tax issues.
Another example of compromise reached by a working group, convened by the conservative American Enterprise Institute and the liberal Brookings Institution, has just produced an excellent report on poverty. What are the recommendations of the report? Is it possible that Congress and the President can seriously consider the recommendations and move forward again? Or are we destined to be mired in business as usual and totally focused on the upcoming elections?
