Small Business Owner Pioneers Cancer Detection Technology

Business SpotlightMichael Rogers, Vice President Communications for the Small Business Association of Michigan, talks with Paul Angott, President of Pontiac-based FirstSense Medical (FSM), who has pioneered a cancer detection technology, and is a Michigan 50 Companies to Watch. Paul is the inventor on 25 issued patents and 25 provisional patents. Over the course of his career, Paul has sold over $100 million of his patented products, and his products are currently in an estimated 3,000 retail locations including Home Depot, Lowes, Sears, ACE and Wal-Mart.

Paul’s former company, Dimango Products Corporation, won 22 awards at the National Hardware Show from 1985 to 1995. He has taken over 30 products from concept to market. Early in his career, Paul earned a BS in Engineering Sciences from Oakland University, and was a Management Consultant at Deloitte & Touché. He has received national media coverage, including the Wall Street Journal and Business Week. In 2011, he was named Entrepreneur of the Year by one of Michigan’s largest and most prestigious technology business associations, Automation Alley.
