Shunpiker Update – New Book In Production!

MBN: NAHC

CARGASMS, Teasing our Garagenous Zones

This will be phase one where we enlist and compile your car stories – a collection of stories provided by folks for whom an automobile is more than transportation: collectors, journalists, enthusiasts, celebrities, historians, sociologists, regular folks, anyone really. We want to include the most interesting and revealing stories about cars, the relationships, contexts, whatever makes them fun, from those with the ability to tell them.

As our colleague Matt Stone discovered when he compiled his book My First Car, these stories can be more fun and more colorful than fiction. The cars become fascinating tools to get to know remarkable people. Our book will take Matt’s theme the next couple steps to include stories of one’s favorite, and most lusted-after cars.

We will ask three questions:

  • What was your first car?
  • Of all the cars you’ve owned, what was your favorite?
  • What car comes to mind when we say “CARGASM” – that is, what car really rings your chimes?

If you’d like to be one of the story-tellers, or see an example of one fella’s answer to the questions, see the Shunpiker website and/or e-mail Steve.

My library is not large but it is content rich. Browsing through it regularly reminds me of the treasures there and I’m often inspired to pluck one out for an immediate read. That happened a few weeks ago and the one I plucked then has just returned to its shelf. I speak of one of my favorites: Thus Spake David E., by David E. Davis, Jr.

Racer, ad guy, and most important journalist, David E. is the guy who said, “being an auto journalist allows one to live as if he were wealthy, without the burden of wealth,” or something like that. The book is a collection of columns he had written over his notorious career at Road & Track, Car & Driver and Automobile magazines. Those stories often included tidbits of his history and thus becomes his comprehensive memoirs. And what an entertaining life he has led!

ORDER NOW

JANUARY IN SCOTTSDALE

As we continue to do lectures, book signings, and other events with the MASCOTS in MOTION book we have learned that about 70% of those who buy the book are buying it as a gift for someone special. At the Detroit Book Festival, for example, a lovely, cultured, young business woman looked it over carefully and enthusiastically declared, “My boss would love this book.” When I asked to whom I should inscribe it, she revealed him as CEO of one of the OEMs.

So, be thinking about who you would like to impress with such a gift – only a hundred bucks includes a personalized inscription and shipping. If we get all the way through the holidays and no one gives you one . . . just get one for yourself. You deserve it! www.shunpikerproductions.com
