SBAM | Health Care Affordability Requires Action & Partnership

sbam-2

The Following Statement is from SBAM CEO, Brian Calley:

Our Board has been clear: small businesses can’t keep absorbing unchecked increases in health care costs, and upstream expenses can’t simply be passed along without consequence. Read more here.

Just as important, SBAM is committed to solutions – working across the health care system with insurers, policymakers, and partners who are focused on affordability and long‑term sustainability.

As part of that work, we want to make you aware of affordability resources published by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, which outline:

  • What’s driving health care costs upstream
  • How medical prices, prescription drugs, and utilization impact premiums
  • Efforts BCBSM says it is taking to bend the cost curve and improve value

You can explore those resources here:

BCBSM Affordability Hub

Blueprint for Affordability

Sharing these resources does not replace the work SBAM does to advocate for change. We will continue pressing for accountability and affordability while engaging partners who are working to address the problem from multiple angles.

SBAM has a long-standing policy on health care that guides our work in this area, and a member-led council that meets regularly to discuss these issues. If you’d like to submit feedback on your experience as a small business owner, please send us a message at sbam@sbam.org.

Next week we will be asking for your input to help document what these costs are doing to small businesses on the ground – because real data and real stories matter. Watch your email for our member survey on health care.
