Representatives Moulton and Bacon Introduce Welcome Act so Afghan Evacuees receive Refugee Benefits

IRRC

Word from IRRC,

As they anticipated, the Welcome Act has now been introduced by Representatives Molten and Bacon. As you might remember, the passage of this Act would grant far more assistance to Afghan Arrivals than is now the case for many. Please consider advocating for this very important Act. Its passage would be pivotal in helping us meet the needs of new arrivals.

Nationwide
In addition to contacting our Michigan elected officials, please considering contacting those who are on the fence regarding this Act. Refugees are resettled nationwide and with that, just about every state is impacted by what is to come.

The IRRC of Mid Michigan shares a special thank you to the Office of Global Michigan and Congresswoman Elissa Slotkin’s office for assistance in both learning about the Welcome Act, and their above messaging to you.

The IRRC is a network of over 50 stakeholders from the nonprofit, business, education, faith, public, and private sectors. Because we believe those impacted by our work should lead our work,  in 2015 the IRRC made a strategic decision to create an Advisory Council of New US Americans to lead the collaborative (New US Americans are those who came to the US as refugees/immigrants/migrants and their children). This council, in partnership with the wider network, helps identify needs, optimize opportunities, meet challenges, and support Greater Lansing as a welcoming region for long-term and new residents.

Our work is based on a two-track welcoming and inclusion plan. One track seeks to broaden our ability to connect stakeholders, learn, and foster an environment supportive of collaborative outcomes.

For a deeper dive into the work, we also host a coalition focused on career advancement/professional development, as well as projects such as our partnerships with Central Michigan 211.

We honor and thank the many hands lifting this work forward. The IRRC owes its existence to the stakeholders who have committed to its mission, and the New US Americans who donate their time and expertise to lead it.
