The U.S. economy added 211,000 jobs in November. The unemployment rate held at 5 percent, the lowest since early 2008, while estimates from October and September were revised up by 35,000 jobs, the Labor Department reported.
Holiday shopping isn’t what it used to be. A National Retail Federation survey found that more people shopped online than in stores during the Thanksgiving and Black Friday weekend, a sign of how quickly and deeply American shopping habits have changed.
Business investment across the U.S. is fizzling out. Companies appear reluctant to step up spending on the basic building blocks of the economy, such as machines, computers and new buildings.
