Board of Directors Spotlight

Craig Goulet

City Manager, City of Essexville

As a lifelong Essexville and Bay County resident and Garber High School graduate, I am deeply invested in the area’s job growth and economic opportunities. My experience working for Bay County for over five years and later transitioning to City Manager in Essexville reinforced my passion for fostering business development.

Having worked closely with Bay Future and witnessed their success, joining the Board was a natural step. I understand the importance of economic growth firsthand, as I am the only one among my three brothers who could remain in the area due to job availability. Though new to the Board, I am eager to contribute and look forward to supporting initiatives that create more opportunities for residents who want to stay and thrive here.

Bay Future plays a vital role in fostering collaboration between local businesses, government, and stakeholders to drive economic development. By serving as a central hub, it brings together key players to align efforts for maximum impact. Outside of my professional commitments, I cherish time with my wife, Amanda, and our three children, coaching their activities in robotics, football, and basketball. I’m also a dedicated University of Michigan football fan, enjoying games and sharing that passion with my kids.

For those interested in economic development, my advice is simple—get involved, find where your skills fit, and contribute in any way possible to support the community’s growth.

Bangor Township DDA Facade Improvement Program Continues

The Bangor Township DDA has established a facade improvement program for local properties within its district for 2025. Qualifying projects will be reimbursed 50% of the project cost up to $10,000. The DDA has allocated $100,000 for this project and is excited to embark on this public-private partnership for the improvement of the community.

“Over the years, the Bangor DDA has been incredibly ambitious with its investment in development – particularly in the Shrestha Drive commercial district,” said Dr. Lee Newton, DDA chairman. “Now we are directing our focus toward redevelopment of buildings with the intent of aesthetic or functional improvement, or both. This program definitely highlights that Bangor Township is open for business.”

“The Bangor Township DDA has achieved many fabulous things and has achieved all its original goals. Not resting to raise their arms and cheer victory, they continue to improve the district and polish the gem they have created,” said Bangor Township Supervisor Glenn Rowley. “I have long used the catch phrase ‘Beautiful Bangor Township’; this program is a true testament to meaning of it. We salute all the businesses that take advantage of this program and thank the DDA for its commitment to the community. We appreciate them keeping beautiful Bangor township…..beautiful.”

Program information and applications are available on Bangor Township’s website.
