
Michigan is a top producer of crops, yet approximately 1.5 million Michiganders struggled with having enough to eat in 2023. Could food itself be the solution?
The Food as Medicine movement is gaining momentum in Michigan, with health plans, providers and community partners exploring how nutrition can be integrated into healthcare to prevent and manage disease. From produce prescriptions to Medicaid’s new In Lieu of Services program, these efforts could help reduce food insecurity and improve long-term health outcomes.
This October 7 and 8, we’re proud to join leaders across healthcare, government and community organizations at the inaugural Michigan Food as Medicine Summit. Together, we’ll be discussing sustainable funding, program evaluation, medically tailored meals and how to build stronger networks that ensure Michiganders can access the food they need to live healthier lives.
