PMBC Research Requests: Source Local

PMBC exists to facilitate supply chain connections by providing Michigan suppliers access to procurement opportunities, and by providing buyers access to an extensive and robust Michigan supplier network. In addition to our matchmaking summits, local vendor events and pitch competitions, PMBC has another program offering you might not be aware of: PMBC Research Requests.
pmbc

This no-cost resource is available to any company looking to fill a supply chain need with a Michigan business. In a few days, or even hours, PMBC can use its comprehensive supplier database and research network to identify companies that meet criteria for your product or service needs. Once our team has compiled a list of qualified candidates, we will work with you to determine next best steps in getting connected. Following a recent PMBC Research Request, we were able to identify a qualified steel supplier for an opportunity with The Standing Company, a veteran-owned custom manufacturer of manual and power wheelchairs that allow users to stand. Here’s what The Standing Company had to say:

“We are very impressed with your creativity and ingenuity in helping The Standing Company. Finding and receiving this chromoly steel order is a tremendous stress reducer, especially since we thought we were at a dead end. I guess it is a lesson to us all that we need to not simply take ‘no’ for an immediate answer.

We need to make use of manufacturing/industry/technologically savvy friends like you – friends with far more expertise based on a wider global view than we have in our own little world. Thank you for helping The Standing Company continue to produce the finest standing wheelchair in the world: The Superstand Standing Wheelchair.”

PMBC Celebrates Michigan LGBT+ Owned Businesses

With the recent culmination of LGBT History Month, Pure Michigan Business Connect (PMBC) is reflecting on the significant value that LGBT+ businesses contribute to not only Michigan’s economy, but also our state’s culture. PMBC is proud of its partnership with the Detroit Regional LGBT Chamber of Commerce and its Founder, Kevin Heard, whose mission is to provide access and value to a network of diverse small business members and corporate partners by creating a business-friendly climate, activating the region with development opportunities for growth, and increasing the number of LGBT-certified businesses throughout the state. PMBC works alongside Kevin and the Chamber to provide real growth opportunities for all businesses in the region and beyond by facilitating buyer-supplier connections, recognizing our differences can create business innovation and contribute to greater economic success for all. As local members of the National LGBT Chamber, the Detroit Regional LGBT Chamber can offer LGBT certification to all members who join the Chamber as local businesses.

“Our partnership with PMBC has been vital to the connecting buyers and suppliers across the state,” said Heard. “The team’s passion and commitment to connecting small businesses to procurement opportunities contributes to the overall success of the local community and economic development in the state of Michigan.”

Here are just a few Michigan LGBT-owned businesses PMBC is honored to have in our diverse supplier network:

Hummus Goodness Gains Success with PMBC Matchmaking Services

Hannah Awada never intended to be a small business owner. She went to school to be a teacher, but found it was difficult to teach when her husband took several foreign work assignments across the globe. While living in Shanghai, China, Awada brought homemade hummus to a party and realized she had a hit on her hands.

“I did not know everything when I started Hummus Goodness. Actually, maybe I knew nothing more than how to make yummy hummus. The best thing I did was surround myself with very knowledgeable advisors and organizations. My team and I are so grateful that PMBC has opened the door for Hummus Goodness to have conversations with large retail partners and organizations.”

– Hannah Awada, Owner, Hummus Goodness.
