(Warren, Mich.) — The Painters and Allied Trades District Council 1M today announced its support for Independent candidate Mike Duggan in the race for governor.
“I’m honored to accept the endorsement of the Painters and Allied Trades District Council 1M. These are skilled tradespeople who know what it means to show up, do the job right, and look out for one another,” said Duggan. “Their support tells me this campaign is connecting with people who care less about party labels and more about results. As governor, I’ll keep working the same way, listening, partnering with labor, and getting things done for Michigan’s working families.”
“We’re excited about the potential for someone to lead the state whom we trust and know well. With Mike in charge, union labor will flourish and the working class of Michigan will thrive,” said Robert Gonzalez, business manager and secretary treasurer for DC1M. “Mike’s message has been clear: be consistent, show up and never back down from those telling you to quit. He’s followed through on those principles in Detroit and will continue to do so in Lansing.”
In a recent Detroit News-WDIV-TV poll, Duggan and the majority party candidates are in a dead heat. With Duggan’s final term as Mayor of Detroit complete, he will now be hitting the campaign trail full-time, with upcoming stops in Grand Rapids, Traverse City and elsewhere throughout the State of Michigan.
Duggan has secured more labor endorsements than all of the Democratic candidates combined, as well as the Detroit Regional Chamber of Commerce, Southeast Chamber of Commerce and the Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce.
