General Motors officials recently cut the ribbon to open the historic Durant-Dort Factory One building in Flint that is considered the birthplace of GM. The Flint Road Cart Company was established there in 1886 by Billy Durant who partnered with Josiah Dort to make carriages. That partnership later evolved into auto manufacturing officially becoming General Motors in 1908. Our guest Kevin Kirbitz is the operations manager for the new facility in the restored and reconstructed factory. It is now home to the extensive manufacturing archives from Kettering University (formerly General Motors Institute) and an exceptional event space.
