The state of Michigan has announced a significant development in its efforts to capitalize on federal grants to enhance and grow its EV charging network. Michigan officials are issuing a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for Round 1 of the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Grant program. The RFQ application period opened on May 4 and closes at 4 p.m. EDT on June 6, 2023.

“Launching our state’s NEVI grant program will help us get these dollars into communities efficiently so we can help drivers making the switch to electric traverse our two peninsulas without worrying about where they’re going to charge,” said Governor Gretchen Whitmer.

Michigan State University’s First Class of EV Scholars Signs Letters of Intent
 
 

The inaugural class of Michigander EV Scholarship students from Michigan State University (MSU) was recognized during a “Signing Day” event, during which students signed letters of intent for internship and co-op opportunities at EV-related companies. The MSU EV Scholars will receive an initial $5,000 scholarship that qualifies them for additional funding upon acceptance of a full-time job in Michigan.

 
 
 
 
Applications Open for the Purpose-Built Vehicle Open Innovation Challenge
 
 

Detroit-based company Plug and Play, in partnership with Kia and Hyundai CRADLE Silicon Valley, recently launched the Purpose-Built Vehicle Open Innovation Challenge. The Challenge seeks to identify the best entrepreneurial and technological solutions developed in North America in the logistics, mobility, and automotive sector. Ultimately, the Challenge will help accelerate the development of technology that aligns with Kia’s Purpose-Built Vehicle business.

 
 
 
 
AGS Automotive System Announces 120 New Jobs Coming to Michigan
 
 

Tier-1 auto supplier AGS Automotive Systems has announced it is expanding its presence in the Sterling Heights area. The project is expected to bring a total capital investment of $20 million to the state and create 120 good-paying jobs in advanced auto manufacturing and future mobility. Michigan was chosen for the project over other jurisdictions due to the state’s OEM customers and additional Tier 1 suppliers.
