NEWS RELEASE: Champions committed to vocational rehabilitation programs to be recognized at Michigan Rehabilitation Services awards ceremony

Annual Champion Awards highlights contributions to vocational rehabilitation community

LANSING, Mich.-Media are invited to attend this year’s Champion Awards, hosted by Michigan Rehabilitation Services (MRS). This year’s event is being held in a virtual space to safely honor individuals, businesses and community partners whose exemplary efforts and commitments have resulted in tangible and positive employment outcomes for individuals with disabilities.

What: MRS hosts this awards ceremony every year, honoring those who demonstrate the value of hiring and retaining vocational rehabilitation customers. The event falls within Investing in Abilities Month, proclaimed by Governor Whitmer.


Additionally, the year 2020 marks numerous milestones for the vocational rehabilitation community; including the 100-year anniversary of federally-funded programs and the 30-year anniversary of the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Who: Eleven award recipients will be recognized in six categories; including Community Partner, Business Partner (Large), Business Partner (Small), Customer, Student Customer and Statewide Partner.

Additionally, several special guests will make brief remarks in honor of the occasion:

Governor Gretchen Whitmer
Michigan State Representative Julie Calley
Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity Acting Director Susan Corbin

When: Wednesday, October 21 from 2 to 3:30 p.m.
