New Statewide Poll Shows Mike Duggan Closing Gap Against GOP

Michigan Business Network: Duggan for Michigan

(Detroit) – A new poll from Schoen Cooperman Research reveals Mike Duggan, Independent candidate for governor, is rapidly closing the gap on the top Republican and Democrat candidates statewide. The results show Duggan’s numbers statewide have climbed to 26%, on the heels of Jocelyn Benson at 30% and John James at 29%, with a margin of error of +/- 4 %.

Mike Duggan’s numbers show the strength of his Independent campaign, proving Michigan is ready to vote for an Independent. As the poll demonstrates, voters have only grown more frustrated with parties and more open to an independent bid.

Mike Duggan is the one candidate in this race viewed favorably by voters across the political spectrum. Democrats, Independents and Republicans alike give Duggan double-digit positive ratings.

“We are building a coalition of support unlike anything this state has seen before, pulling unprecedented support from Democrats and Republicans. We’re winning unions, chambers of commerce, clergy and elected officials,” said Ed Duggan, Campaign Manager for Duggan for Michigan. “Again and again, the numbers keep showing that Michigan voters are ready for a leader like Mike Duggan who has a strong track record of getting results by getting people to work together to solve issues that improve quality of life for everyone.”

As Duggan continues to campaign statewide, his momentum will only continue to grow. Additionally, the Schoen Cooperman Research poll reveals Duggan continues to win in Metro Detroit. Duggan also boasts a favorability rating in Detroit of 84% after serving as mayor for 12 years.

Since launching his Independent campaign, Duggan has drawn support from Republicans, Democrats and Independents coming from every corner of Michigan, with the backing of 12 unions, more than 150 pastors and faith leaders, more than 200 former and current statewide elected officials, the Detroit Regional Chamber and Southeast Michigan Chamber. The volume of endorsements more than a year ahead of the gubernatorial election, as well as recent polling, are strong indicators of what Michiganders are looking for in their next governor.
