MWF | Your October update

MWF_finallogo-01-768x402 CroppedDon’t miss your chance to meet the GREAT Michigan women of our time THIS THURSDAY!

Dear friends and supporters,

Like many women, I’ve noticed a startling trend during this pandemic and economic downturn. These crises appear to be affecting women more than men, and women of color more than anyone else. As an organization that exists to support women and minority entrepreneurs, we’ve been concerned, and we know you are too.

The National Women’s Law Center recently published a study that confirmed our suspicions. While most Americans are headed back to work after layoffs in March and April, many women are leaving the workforce entirely.

I talked to WDIV about why we’ve seen so many women-owned small businesses shutter in Michigan, and what Michigan Women Forward is doing (with your help!) to keep women in business. Watch here!

Because of the support of many individual donors, MEDC, local foundations, and corporate supporters of the MWF Michigan Entrepreneur Resilience Fund, we were able to get 200 businesses back up and running. Thank you!

We’ve risen to this challenge, and we will continue to do so because there is still so much to do. Thank you for standing beside us and believing in our mission to create an economy that is inclusive for all. We couldn’t do any of this without you.

Sincerely,
Carolyn Cassin

A message for you from Michigan’s women political leaders: VOTE!

We asked women in public office why voting is so important, especially this year- the 100th anniversary of women’s right to vote. See what they had to say!

Special thanks to State Senator Mallory McMorrow, Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy, Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, US Senator Debbie Stabenow, Supreme Court Chief Justice Bridget McCormack, US Representative Debbie Dingell, and Governor Gretchen Whitmer for participating in our Centennial video series!

Michigan Women’s Hall of Fame Highlights

Did you attend the Michigan Women’s Hall of Fame induction ceremony earlier this month? The event left our attendees feeling hopeful for the future, proud to be from Michigan, and inspired to make their own mark on history!

We also hosted four VIP meet-and-greet sessions last week where attendees got to ask the honorees questions. Here are some of our favorite quotes and takeaways from these sessions:

Visit the Michigan Women’s Hall of Fame in person to learn more about each inductee and many other legendary Michigan women. The Michigan Women’s Historical Center in Lansing is now open for tours by reservation only.
