D.A. Blodgett-St. John’s – Agency worries child abuse will rise in April, which is Child Abuse Prevention

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month, and it’s a timely observance for child foster care agency D.A. Blodgett-St. Johns. As community members practice social distancing due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the home visiting field-which serves many families that face challenges related to economic hardship, mental health and substance use-can no longer meet with families in person. Research shows that child abuseintimate partner violence, and substance abuse increase during times of crisis, so it is now more important than ever to provide support to families who may face barriers to accessing services. To ensure that families can stay connected during social distancing, D.A. Blodgett-St. John’s has moved all in home visits and therapy sessions to telehealth platforms. Click here for more information on what the organization is doing to continue operations and help prevent an increase in domestic abuse.

The Right Place, Inc.  – The Right Place facilitates development of COVID-19 testing kits

The Right Place team learned a Grand Rapids hospital was experiencing a major shortage of nasal swabs for COVID-19 test kits so Right Place staff immediately identified a member of its medical device consortium, MiDevice, that might have the capabilities to fulfill the request: Keystone Solutions Group. The CEO and team worked Saturday to begin development of the swabs. They had specifications by the end of the day. Keystone Solutions Group has nearly completed the entire supply chain needed to manufacture the kits, and it’s expected that the swabs will be in production for West Michigan health care systems soon.
