The insurance industry was given an $80 million tax break in 2012 and didn’t know about it until two years ago. Now, Gov. Rick Snyder and some lawmakers want to take it back, citing several spending pressures. But the insurance industry and the Michigan Chamber of Commerce are pushing back, saying Michigan’s car insurance rates are among the highest in the country and this money could be used to scale those back.
