Michigan Works! Response to the Michigan House & Senate’s LEO/MEDC Budget Recommendations

Hundt — MichiganWorks! Association

This statement can be attributed to Ryan Hundt, CEO, Michigan Works! Association in response to the Michigan House and Senate’s LEO/MEDC budget recommendations:

“The budget proposals released by the House and Senate this week reflect a growing recognition of the critical role workforce development plays in Michigan’s economic future. Programs like Going PRO Talent Fund and registered apprenticeships have delivered strong results for Michigan businesses and workers, helping close skills gaps and create new career pathways.

“While we are encouraged to see continued support for workforce initiatives in both chambers, the significant funding differences, with the absence of Going PRO in the Senate proposal and no investment in apprenticeships in the House, highlight the importance of continued collaboration as the budget process continues.

“We also appreciate the inclusion of funding in both proposals to support workforce programs connected to Medicaid and SNAP work requirements. It’s more important than ever that individuals have access to high-quality employment and training services through Michigan Works! agencies. Ensuring participants can meet work requirements while building skills and connecting to in-demand jobs is critical to strengthening our workforce.

“We look forward to working with lawmakers to ensure Michigan makes strategic investments in programs that deliver real results for employers and residents across the state.”
