In the MIRS’ Weekly Report, editor, Kyle Melinn, discusses the impact of the Michigan Supreme Court’s decision in a pair of cases that negatively impacts state employee unions. In the first, the Court found the administrative fees that were charged to state employees who opted against joining the union representing his or her business unit cannot be assessed.
In the second, the Court found the Legislature was within its legal rights to offer veteran state employees to pay 4 percent of their salary to keep their pension or move their retirement savings plan to a 401(k).
