Michigan is among the top 10 states for cyber security growth potential, manufacturing workforce, opportunity zones, and tech job growth, and, once again ranks number one for automotive manufacturing strength according to Business Facilities’ 15th annual Rankings Report for 2019.
The evolution of an emerging growth sector in Michigan is apparent when comparing year over year results in the report. Michigan has maintained its strength in automotive manufacturing strength, top manufacturing states – percent of workforce, and top manufacturing states – employment.
“Michigan has elevated its reputation as a national leader for creating a 21st-cetury economy driven by technology and innovation,” said Jeff Mason, CEO of MEDC. “We are attracting new jobs and investments each day and are well-positioned to compete on the national and global level for business attraction.”
In addition, Michigan ranks at the fourth spot for top manufacturing states in terms of employment, a ranking that underscores the state’s dramatic economic growth and ongoing efforts to create jobs for Michigan residents across the state.
The Business Facilities’ Ranking Report looks at solid metrics and uses high-level evaluation to determine who’s ahead of the curve. As real-time data becomes available, Business Facilities’ lets the numbers do the talking to rank the leading states. As new growth sectors emerge, the rankings categories also subdivide into critical subsets.
Other notable accomplishments for Michigan also include a Silver Shovel Award from Area 
Development, recognizing the state for achievements in attracting high-value investment projects that will create a significant number of new jobs. The award was based on 10 projects, including Ford Motor Co. Michigan Central Station, KLA, Nexient and Amazon‘s distribution center in West Michigan.
Today’s ranking also comes on the heels of Michigan winning the 2019 Corporate Investment/Community Impact Award (CiCi award) by Trade & Industry Development for the Ford Motor Co. Michigan Central Station project announced last year. This is the 14th year the publication has honored projects around the country that promise-through extensive capital investment or influential community impact-to help shape the communities in which they are located, and in which they continue to develop and grow.
