Michigan News – Unemployment Rate Fell, Auto Sales up and More!

Regional BusinessMichigan’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate fell to its lowest rate in 14 years in July, 5.3 percent, but the decline had nothing to do with the state adding new jobs during the month, because figures showed the state had no net gain in employment last month.

A study released by personal finance site, WalletHub.com, found that the level and quality of education in cities around the country varies widely. The number one ranked Ann Arbor, Michigan, has the highest percentage of adults ages 25 and up with bachelor, graduate and professional degrees in the country – and it’s startling to compare the city’s numbers with other locales.

The auto industry’s present is looking pretty good. Sales are booming and Detroit’s automakers are enjoying an era of prosperity not seen since at least the late 1990s. Some analysts say sales this year could top the all-time record of 17.4 million cars and light trucks set in 2000. But the environment is far different from 15 years ago, when the Detroit Three’s profits collapsed with sales of big SUVs, nearly wiping out the domestic auto industry.

Much more is highlighted in Michigan News.
