The UAW chose Fiat Chrysler Automobiles as its target to set the pattern for a contract deal before turning to General Motors and Ford Motor Co. The UAW’s current four-year contracts with the Detroit 3 expired on Monday, September 14. They were extended by mutual agreement.
Michigan’s unemployment rate dropped to 5.1 percent in August, its lowest point in 14 years. The seasonally adjusted jobless rate fell two-tenths of a percentage point last month.
Keeping it light may be the hottest topic going among workforce experts. Industry experts are in search of the next generation of vehicles, and finding the talent to drive the technology. The demand for workers in lightweighting-related jobs has never been more pronounced, even outpacing the skills-gap laden STEM jobs.
