Michigan News – Senate Planning to Remain in Session This Summer

Regional BusinessThe Michigan Senate is planning to remain in session this summer after voters rejected a road-funding proposal on last week’s ballot. Lawmakers typically break in June and don’t return until September except for holding an occasional session if needed. But Majority Floor Leader Mike Kowall announced the addition of 30 session days to the calendar.

Michigan tax revenues are projected to be $365 million higher over two years than previously estimated, mostly because of economic growth-prompting key lawmakers to suggest that much or all of the surplus money go toward fixing bumpy roads.

Manufacturing employment increased in Michigan for a fourth straight year, reports the 2015 Michigan Manufacturers Directory®.
