Michigan’s unemployment rate has held steady in the latest month at 5.5 percent, 1.6 points lower than a year earlier. The state announced that the seasonally adjusted jobless rate for June was identical with the rate in May. The U.S. rate fell 0.2 points to 5.3 percent in the latest month.
Consumers Energy has launched a drone to inspect utility poles and wind turbines in parts of Michigan. The unmanned aerial vehicle can transport a 14-pound payload and can be used to inspect utility lines and take thermal and regular video images.
A hundred dollars may seem like a hundred dollars, but Michiganders can actually purchase $106.16 worth of goods with that money. The Tax Foundation crunched the most recent data from the Bureau of Economic Analysis, which is from 2013. The BEA looked at the cost of things like transportation, housing, education and food in each state. The purchasing power of money in Michigan actually increased from the 2012 numbers, when Michiganders could purchase $105.93 worth of goods for $100.
