National Cherry Festival

Remember the sights, sounds, and smells of a summer celebration in your hometown when you were a kid? It probably had music shows, sporting events, marching bands, pie-eating contests and a midway.

The National Cherry Fesitval‘s 120 events include all of the above and more! Free air shows over the Bay, colorful parades, music shows, and lots of luscious cherries prepared every way you can imagine will be found all week long on Traverse City’s beautiful Lake Michigan shores.

During the day you can bring your family down and enjoy Skerbeck Family Carnival while eating for the evening’s firework displays. We also have dozens of vendors selling their wares right at the entrance to the carnival, and on the opposite side of the river, Wenonah Park offers great local and regional entertainment on the bandshell stage right up until the fireworks begin. The Pow-Wow, or Jiigtamok, has historical, social and spiritual value to Native American’s. Some trace the word powwow back to Anishinaabemowin, the language of the Anishinaabe. Early European-Americans used the word to mean a council or meeting. Powwows, or celebrations, as they were called, were originally held in the spring to celebrate the new beginning of life. Individuals participate in traditional dance and song, visit with family and friends, make new acquaintances, and trade arts and crafts.

Alpenfest…A week of Swiss inspired merriment for the whole family. Stroll the Alpenstrasse, (Main Street) with over 90 arts and crafts exhibitors plus a carnival. Enjoy free entertainment nightly on our Alpenstage. Rejoice in the Burning of the Boogg and watch your troubles go up in smoke. Watch the Grand Parade Saturday at noon, and try franc-flipping and other Swiss inspired contests or savor the World’s Largest Coffee Break. After the parade there will be a car show! You can also stop by our art tent all week! – all in Gaylord’s Alpine Village.

Lincoln Memorial Park.
The Festival features free live bands throughout the weekend, kid activities, jet ski races, bocce ball, corn hole and volleyball tournaments, and much more.

There is a $5-per-vehicle parking allowance that is donated to the Saginaw Township Soccer Association for facility and grounds maintenance and improvements.
For the safety and enjoyment of everyone, pets and outside food/drinks are prohibited.

The 9th annual Uncle Sam Jam has become part of the Downriver Communities’ Independence Day Holiday Celebration. This event is held Thursday, July 11 through Sunday, July 14 and will take place at Civic Center Park in the City of Woodhaven, near 1-75 and West Rd.
The Uncle Sam Jam brings family fun to Woodhaven with Friday night fireworks, carnival rides and games, attractions, monster truck rides, petting zoo, camel rides and FREE concerts all weekend long! There is NO ADMISSION CHARGE to the event!
