2 | CIT tax hike = Big hit to small businesses
What’s happening: Some lawmakers are pushing a 40% Corporate Income Tax (CIT) increase — raising Michigan’s rate from 6% to 8.5% to fund road repairs. Despite the name, this proposal would hit small businesses the hardest.
By the numbers:
Nearly 9 in 10 businesses paying our state’s CIT are small employers under 100.
$800 million/year on the backs of Michigan job creators in communities and towns across our state.
It would make Michigan’s CIT among the highest in the country.
Why it matters: We can all agree that Michigan’s roads need fixing — but not by saddling small businesses with an unfair, unsustainable tax burden.
You’re not in this alone: The Michigan Chamber is uniting Main Street businesses across the state to stop this harmful proposal and find a better way. Take action now: Sign the petition and raise your voice
